Karma Footprint - VERVE Walked The Talk
KARMA FOOTPRINT : £1,050 raised for CARE International UK Walk In Her Shoes Campaign!
WHO : Team VERVE London & CARE International UK
WHAT : A 5 mile walk around London’s Southbank to raise funds
WHEN : May 20 2017
WHY : to raise funds and awareness about the women and girls who are robbed of education, liberty and opportunity by the desperate demand for water in the most impoverished areas of the world.
FACTS: Without access to toilets many women and girls only dare to relieve themselves under the cover of darkness.
Night-time trips to fields or roadsides put them at risk of physical attack and sexual violence.
The shame and indignity of defecating in the open affects self esteem, as does the lack of water for washing clothes and personal hygiene.
Globally, women and children spend 200 million hours every day collecting water.
1 in 4 girls does not complete primary school compared with 1 in 7 boys.
School enrolment rates for girls has shown to improve by over 15% when provided with clean water and toilets.
RECAP : 10,000 steps is a lot further than you’d think. Especially so when you know that girls as young as six do it EVERYDAY with up to 40 pounds of water balanced on their heads. 25 fierce feminists walked the talk for CARE INT. UK. Throughout our 5 mile walk we stuck maxi pads with VERVE #MaxiFacts on bridges, phone booths, water fountains, statues and urinals… Got nothin’ better to do? Take a peek HERE. Being “bad” feels so fucking good….
